Two women below 50 claim they entered Sabarimala temple. Various media have reported this fete as a victory for women. Is it ? They are being hailed as women devotees who successfully manged to get darshan of their favourite Lord Ayyappa.
The people who manged to orchestrate this can be seen grinning from ear to ear , congratulating themselves on accomplishing WHAT ?
What exactly did they accomplish ?
They did not provide security to devotees longing for a glimpse of their Lord or fighting for their dignity. They manged to sneak in some women who cared the least about Ayyappa or women empowerment for that matter.
As an educated woman who believes that women should be respected in society, I must be thrilled. Instead, I feel hurt and disgusted. You had no right to play with the feelings and beliefs of so many devotees.
If the government truly wanted to bring about women empowerment , they could do something about the Sasi’s in their party, listen to the woes of the homeless mothers; do something for Sanal’s wife whose life was thrashed in a moment by a ruthless DSP.
Some afterthoughts:
The scene from Disney’s “Cars” comes to my mind where Chick Hicks beams with joy in his “victory” but gets only Boos from the crowd and media . Where is the applaud, people ? Something great has been accomplished. Women of Kerala have been liberated , finally.

What does it matter if they were not devotees ? Do you have any “devoteemeter”? Women have entered Sabarimala . LIBERATION! GUINNESS BOOK! SOCIAL STUDIES TEXT! STATUES!
Revolts ? Who cares about those things ? If someone from my party dies they will become martyrs. If someone from the other party dies, maybe they could be terrorists. Common People? What common people ? Oh! Them. We will announce cash award . But never give anything.
