A Prayer by Rabindranath Tagore

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them.
Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.
Let me not look for allies in life’s battlefield but to my own strength.
Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved but hope for the patience to win my freedom.
Grant me that I may not be a coward, feeling your mercy in my success alone;
But let me find the grasp of your hand in my failure.

A Journey to the Parking Lot

Race you....

Mommy says we’re going out. Yay!
No, mommy, not through the laundry. It’s a shortcut. You’ll miss all the fun.
Here, follow me.
We have to take the longest route possible to the parking lot.
There is so much to see.
Run with me.
See … here comes a pickup truck.
Wait here . Another one will come soon.
No, it’s not that cold.
There comes another one.
OK. Let’s go.
Look mommy , a squirrel.
Wow! He’s sooooooo cute.
There’s a stick. There’s another one. There’s another one.
Let’s count them.
Wait. Stop.
I forgot to jump near the tree.
Let me go back.
One, two, three …jump. SEE.
OK. Race you to the parking lot.
There’s my car. Why are you shouting again that I should not run through the parking lot?
How else will we reach our car?
How many times do I have to show you this?
Once we reach the parking lot, we have to run to the car.
I don’t want to hold your hands.
I am a big boy.
But call me baby.
I can climb all on my own. I can even say SEATBELT.
Now let’s go wherever you want to go.
What ? It took only fifteen minutes to get to the parking lot?
Don’t worry Mommy.
Next time we will watch more cars or squirrels. That would be fun.

Me First

ART

I was beaming with joy and pride as I studied the masterpiece.
An immortal piece of art, I’m sure.
Yeah ! you guessed it right.
It’s a SPIDER drawn by my 3 year old.
It was a very special spider with 10 legs, one eye and a big mouth.
Dutifully , he reminded me that his spider needed a big mouth to SMILE.
Looking around , I could sense that I was the only one who could see a spider in those strokes.
Not every layman can understand or appreciate the work of the masters.

A prayer by Saint Francis of Assissi

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow Love.
Where there is injury , pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
